University of Birjand Researcher Shines Internationally at the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13)

Birjand, Iran — A research project by Dr. Mohammad Eskandari Sani, faculty member of the Department of Geography at the University of Birjand, along with his research collaborator Afsaneh Hassani, has achieved notable international recognition. The project was shortlisted as a “Shortlisted Practice” in the prestigious international competition “Best Urban Regeneration Practices 2025”, held on the sidelines of the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

According to the University of Birjand’s Public Relations and Information Office, Dr. Eskandari Sani’s research was selected as one of the outstanding experiences at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) global forum.

The 13th edition of the World Urban Forum, organized by UN-Habitat in collaboration with Shanghai University (China), is one of the most important global platforms dedicated to showcasing successful models of sustainable urban development.

Research Project Details

The awarded project, titled “Presenting Financing Models and Methods Leveraging Startup Potentials for Urban Regeneration: A Case Study of Birjand City”, was rigorously evaluated by an international panel of experts and recognized as a practical and successful model in the field of urban regeneration.

During the specialized session, Dr. Eskandari Sani delivered a keynote presentation titled “Empowering Marginalized Cities via the Financial Carbon Twin”, which received significant attention and positive feedback from international specialists.

In the official award ceremony, the certificate of achievement was presented to Dr. Eskandari Sani by Pietro Elisei, Chair of the IOPUR Expert Panel.
