Department of Mechanical Engineering
Department of Mechanical Engineering
The Mechanical Engineering Department was established in 1994 with the admission of students at the associate degree level and, five years later, in 1999, expanded to offer a continuous bachelor’s degree program within the Faculty of Engineering at University of Birjand. The department’s graduate programs began in 2002 with the admission of students to the Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing and Production). This was subsequently expanded with the introduction of two additional Master’s specializations: Energy Conversion in 2007 and Applied Design in 2008.
The first doctoral program in the department, and indeed the first doctoral program within the Faculty of Engineering, was launched in 2008 in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Manufacturing and Production, with the enrollment of five students in October of that year. It is worth noting that, with the development of graduate programs, admission to the associate degree program was gradually phased out and transferred to University of Birjand’s affiliated technical colleges. The Mechanical Engineering Department is unique in the region in terms of its equipment and the variety of workshops and laboratories. Currently, 15 laboratories and workshops are actively engaged in education and research. A significant portion of these laboratories possess the capability to serve various industrial sectors, conduct research, and perform nationally standardized testing. Several of these laboratories are currently providing services at the regional and provincial levels in the design and manufacture of specialized industrial components.
