Department of Geography
The Department of Geography at University of Birjand began its activities in February 2005 with the admission of undergraduate students in Urban Geography. Starting in the 2005–2006 academic year, the department expanded its programs to admit students in two specializations: Urban Geography and Rural Geography. In the 2008–2009 academic year, by admitting students to the Master’s program in Geography and Rural Planning, the department joined the active graduate-level programs at University of Birjand.
At present, the Department of Geography admits students at the undergraduate level in Geography, with two tracks: Urban Geography and Planning and Rural Geography and Planning, and at the graduate level in the following programs: Geography and Rural Planning (specialization in Sustainable Rural Development Management), Political Geography (specialization in Political Spatial Planning), Environmental Hazards, and Geography and Urban Planning (specialization in Urban Spatial Planning). Beginning in 2025–2026, the department also admits students to the Master’s program in Geography and Tourism Planning (specialization in Destination Management).
