Scientometrics Center
Scientometrics Center
The duties of the Scientometrics Center cover a wide range of activities focused on monitoring, analyzing, and enhancing the university’s research performance. These responsibilities can be summarized as follows:
- Support, Training, and Consultation: The center provides crucial support to the university community by holding regular training workshops for faculty and graduate students on scientometric topics. It offers consultations on evaluating journals for publication, using citation databases (like WOS and Scopus), and developing effective search strategies.
- Research System Management: A core function is the management and maintenance of the university's research information systems. This includes annually updating the lists of accredited journals (e.g., JCR, Scopus), ensuring faculty profiles in the scientometrics portal are correct and up-to-date, and coordinating with software companies to resolve any system errors.
- Performance Analysis and Reporting: The center continuously monitors the university’s scientific output across various international databases (WOS, Scopus, Google Scholar, ORCID). It identifies high-impact faculty (based on H-index), top-cited articles, and leading research fields within the university. This data is used to produce detailed quarterly and annual reports on the university's research progress and to create a scientific map that visualizes strengths and research gaps.
- Journal and Publication Strategy: The center is responsible for keeping the university community informed about reputable and blacklisted journals. It works to improve the ranking and visibility of the university’s own journals, assists in getting new English-language journals established and indexed in major databases, and identifies core and high-impact publications in fields relevant to the university.
- University Ranking and Strategic Planning: The center plays a direct role in improving the university’s standing by contributing data to national ranking systems (like ISC) and monitoring the university’s position in global rankings (like Times). The insights from scientometric studies are used to provide strategic recommendations for research planning and conference themes.
