An innovative smart device for measuring the specifications of radial tire beads has been officially registered under patent number 114096 at Iran’s General Directorate of Industrial Property. Designed and developed by researchers from the Electronics Engineering Department at the University of Birjand, the system aims to localize and enhance precision in quality control processes within the tire manufacturing industry.

According to the University of Birjand Public Relations Office, the invention is the result of collaboration among Dr. Abolfazl Bijari, faculty member of the Electronics Department and team leader; Dr. Mohammad Amin Malaki; Mohammad Javad Tavakoli; Mohammad Eshghi; and Faezeh Ghasemi Golag. The device was designed and built last year under the “Ahmadi Roshan” plan of the National Elite Foundation.

This scientific achievement seeks to replace traditional quality control methods in tire production while emphasizing modernization and localization of these processes. Accurate measurement of the dimensions and weight of the tire bead is critical during manufacturing, as any dimensional tolerance can reduce the tire’s lifespan. Conventional methods rely on manual measurement using mechanical tools, which introduce human error and limit the precision of quality control on production lines.

Higher Accuracy Through Image Processing

The core of the invention is based on imaging technology and advanced image-processing algorithms. The developed algorithm calculates the bead diameter with an error of less than one percent, offering greater accuracy and speed compared to traditional techniques such as the use of templates. This capability can significantly reduce human error and improve the performance of quality control departments in manufacturing lines.

Applicability in Production Lines and Other Industries

Designed with an industrial approach, the device is capable of integration into production lines. It can also be applied in other industries that require precise quality control of components.
